Now ready for its SIPS panel roof, this eco-home is testament to the pace and versatility of insulated concrete formwork (filling its sandstone hillside in just 4 months), the pioneering approach of our clients and construction team and the potential of ultra sustainable living.
The home is so well insulated that no heating system is needed. The energy efficiency of the home will help the home save an estimated 341 metric tons of CO2 emissions in use.
Taking full advantage of the hillside nature of this new passive solar home, and the panoramic views it offered was a critical aspect of this project from the beginning, with a range of windows framing views across Scarborough, the North Yorkshire Moors and the North Sea.
The relationship the Hillside House has to the sun is a critical aspect of the project, optimally angling the pitch of the roof for both solar panels and sunlight to reach deep into the heart of the house through a 3 storey light well. The sun is also the home’s main source of heat, being absorbed by thermally massive floor slabs, tempering the home’s internal climate.
