The Thankful Forge

Catwick, East Riding of Yorkshire

Holiday Cottage

2010 - 2015

Set in the doubly thankful village of Catwick, the Thankful Forge provides luxury holiday accommodation in the expansive East Riding Landscape.

Historically the village blacksmith's forge, this project aimed to repair and restore the derelict forge through a new life as a holiday cottage. Each of the hand-thrown Georgian bricks was carefully restored prior to their reassembly, many of which hold graffiti from the 19th century. The dwelling offers living quarters for a family of 4 around an open plan kitchen living area placed at first-floor level.

The cottage utilises a range of low carbon solutions including a sophisticated system of ventilation & heat recovery enabling a constant supply of warm fresh air, without the heat loss of a constantly open window. The dwelling mitigates the loud main street adjacent with high performance acoustically attenuated glazing.
